Adults often make mistakes when it comes to brushing their teeth. These mistakes often involve doing too much or too little of something. If you don't have as great of oral health as you would like to, you are likely making one of these mistakes. Here are some of the most common mistakes that adults make that maybe you could start to avoid.
Top Brushing Mistakes You May Be Making
The number one mistake most adults make is either brushing too little or too much. Typically, the problem is brushing too little. This happens when you only brush once per day, or when you don't brush for a full two minutes at each brushing time. Occasionally, adults will also brush too much, meaning they brush more than twice a day or for 3 minutes or longer at each session.
Another common mistake with brushing is using your toothbrush too long. You should make sure to replace your toothbrush at least every three months, but sometimes even sooner than that. If you get sick, replace it. If you get an oral infection, even like a cold sore, replace it. If you don't know the last time you replaced your toothbrush, it is definitely time.
You should also make sure to keep your toothbrush sanitized. This should be done weekly at the very longest. Simply placing your toothbrush into your dishwasher or rinsing it with hydrogen peroxide before using it can help keep extra bacteria out of your mouth. This is another common mistake that is totally avoidable.
If your oral health isn't quite as high as you would like it to be, then find out if you are possibly making any of these or similar mistakes. It may not be anything you are even aware you are doing, but it can go a long way towards changing your overall oral health.
