You Can Alleviate Some Anxiety by Talking to Your Dentist

Posted on 7/31/2017 by Dr. Leite
Talk to Anthony Leite Dentistry today to alleviate your dental anxiety.
So, you are afraid to go to the dentist. Well, don't feel bad; you are not alone by a long shot. Fear of the dentist affects 13% - 24% of the people in the world. Yes, that was the world. Americans do not have a corner on the market of anxiety when it comes to dentists. People fear dentists for a variety of reasons. There are those that actually had a bad experience and are fearful of something that actually did happen, though these are the rare cases. There are those who have never had to have a procedure because they always took very good care of their teeth, and don't know what to expect now that they do have a problem. And there are those who are just plain afraid of the dentist. So how do you relieve this anxiety before you put your dental health at risk?

Here’s a Tip to Relieve the Anxiety

Your dentist has no idea what you know about dental procedures. Your dentist also doesn’t know what types of experiences you have had at the dentist. The fact is he doesn’t even know if you feel anxiety at all. The best way to handle this situation is to sit down and have a talk with your dentist. What can this do for you, you may ask. Here is what it can do for you.

If you sit down with your dentist to have a chat you can explain to the dentist that you are a little afraid of what happens in a dental office. You can let your dentist know of any bad experiences you may have had that cause you to feel this anxiety. Or you may just have anxiety about the procedure you are going to have. If you let your dentist know, your dentist can explain the procedure and come up with a plan that will remove the anxiety. It may be as simple as offering to mildly sedate you so your anxiety will be relieved when the procedure is performed. Remember, dentists are people too. If you have any questions, or if you would like to learn more, please call us today at (415) 877-3128.
